Time for some bad news for Indiana Pacer fans, no Paul George at this year’s dunk contest. It’s a bit of a letdown, especially after seeing that ridiculous dunk he was able to put together in the game last night against the Los Angeles Clippers.
You just wonder how awesome it would have been to see George competing again if you could pull off something like that during a game. But then again, each year, the dunk contest has seemed to decline as the bigger stars decline to compete.
Just think if Paul George, Blake Griffin, Lebron James, and such would give it that time of day it deserves. That contest used to be such a great time to the All Star weekend. I don’t really know how you can get those guys back interested in it as you know Michael Jordan always wanted to perform at it.
I also understand that George will be competing in the actual All Star game, so I believe he doesn’t want to put so much extra wear and tear on his body before the final push to the playoffs and beyond for the Indiana Pacers. That’s a busy weekend if he were to compete Saturday night and Sunday night, and then get back to playing games that following Tuesday.
This Pacers team does have higher goals in mind, so George not competing isn’t such a bad thing. The Pacers want to continue to pad their Conference lead and their division lead, so you need all the health you can get. If George can go out and continue to perform like he has, we’ll get a taste of those sweet dunks in a game throughout the season. But the bigger sweetness will be a Pacers championship.
