Only two games left in this preseason for the Indiana Pacers to fine tune and gear up for the regular season. Fans here in town won’t see the team until next week when they open the season at home, and hopefully they’ll be ready to go come that night. So far, it’s been a pretty down preseason as this team hasn’t looked quite like we predicted. There are issues that need to be sorted out, so that this team will be where they need to be come next week. I believe the past two games has started to show what this team can become, and now with two games this week, that progress needs to continue.
Work on the shooting as there were some low shooting percentages this preseason. I don’t think there are very high shooters on this team, so maybe it just won’t be a great shooting team anyways. But even scoring wise, getting to that 95 point range is probably ideal for this team. Keeping the other team in that range as well is where the Pacers need to stand defensively.
I still want to see who ends up starting, Danny Granger or Lance Stephenson. I’m going with Granger as the starter as it just seems to make sense. And more importantly, it will be about who finishes the game. You can split all the time you want between Granger and Stephenson, but let’s see who’s out there at the end of a game and you’ll see who’s just a tad more important to this team.
I want to see Paul George, Roy Hibbert, and even George Hill make some leaps to where their game should be. I’m going to start with Hill as I feel like many people don’t always give me the credit for what he does. You know what he needs to do this season? Be aggressive. That’s something I want to see out of Hill. The same can be said for Roy Hibbert. Don’t get all soft around the rim, but take it strong. Be strong at this start of the season, and make himself an All Star candidate like he looked last year in the playoffs.
Finally, Paul George will be ready to come regular as he’s looked good this preseason. He’s hit for double figures. He’s had some rebounds and even some assists. Just filling the stat sheet is what a superstar should do, and I believe Paul George does that this season.
This team needs to get going in this direction that we’ve seen the past two games, and things will be fine come next Tuesday night for Orlando. Just eight days away from the start of the season, and I can’t wait.
