Looks like the New York Knicks are close to signing the always entertaining Metta World Peace. I don’t think I’ll ever be comfortable calling him that, especially as a Pacers fan, and we just knew him as Ron Artest. And as a Pacers site, it’s always fun to see what former players are up to. Metta might be a goat around here, but there’s little doubt, he was quite a player until that point of no return. He brought some defensive intensity to the team, and really gave them a good shot at a title until you know what happened. Since then, he’s had some run ins, but did end up with a championship to his name, and even thanked his shrink in that process, so that’s always a good thing.
And now he’s heading back home to where he got his college career going, and his hometown of Queens in New York city. Didn’t he mention Queens a lot in his championship spiel? World Peace will be that guy that you always think about what could have been if he didn’t go on the end of crazy. I mean he was quite the defensive player, and really could have made himself just known as that.
But then he does all this other stuff, like he punches Brandon Knight and “elbows” James Harden a year ago. Even Jeff Van Gundy, in that clip, starts to say Artest, so that’s all about you have to say about his name. It’s those type of things that will get World Peace the headlines, and not that he was just an all around good player for a bit.
Now he gets to join the New York Knicks, and all that media circus that will create. You put him on the team wit J.R. Smith, who has been known as a hot head, and Carmelo Anthony, who wants the ball all the time. I feel like this is going to be really good for the Knicks or just end really bad for the Knicks. It’s almost like the Brooklyn Nets on the extreme level. Things could just implode at some point with the Knicks, and things could get downright ugly. But the media up there in New York will have fun with that, and isn’t that whole point of bringing World Peace around your team anymore?
