It’s getting close for Paul George to show even more of his skills on the national scene this Saturday and Sunday night. I don’t know how much playing time he’ll get come Sunday night. But being part of the Three Point Competition will be great exposure for him. He’s really developed such a silky smooth shot that it brings back those days of Reggie Miller and always believing it’s always going in. He’s even got that confidence going that he doesn’t seem down if the shot goes out and he doesn’t get too hyped if the shot goes in. He’s already hit the record for three pointers made in a game for the Indiana Pacers franchise, which is saying something with as good as Miller was. I think he’s even ready to make that leap to true superstar if he continues on this upswing.
Come Sunday, he will get some playing time, and I hope that he’ll get a chance to show off the dunking skills as he was a part of the Slam Dunk Contest last year, and really had a good chance to take it. You get Paul George in the open floor and he can truly dunk with the best of them. Even in last night’s game against Charlotte, he made a left handed dunk that looked ridiculous. Oh yea, he ended up with a triple double. I don’t think that’s the last of those to come for him. With his game involved at all levels, he’s going to be securing more triple doubles along the way.
It makes you so proud as a Pacers fan to have Roy Hibbert in the All Star Game last season, and now George will step into that role this season. I don’t think this will be the last of what we see George in that game. It might be a bit before he gets voted in as the Pacers are still seeking that national attention. But the reserves are voted by coaches, so it’s great to see that other coaches are taking notice of George and his ability. To think, he even started off a bit slow, and didn’t hit his stride til a month into the season. Just think if he comes out on fire at the beginning of the season. There might be some small rumblings of MVP talk as he’s been so important to the Pacers, and if they’re able to take the division this season, why not? But he’ll get his chance to shine on that national stage all weekend, and I am proud to see that.
