Through some discussions on the Always Miller Time facebook page, an option came up that I hadn’t thought about, but now looking into it makes sense if the Indiana Pacers could swing it. Kyle Korver is that type of scorer who comes in for his role and make those shots you need off the bench. The weakness for this Pacers team is the bench scoring. There are those times when they’re hitting baskets and bringing the game back around the team. But there are times that the bench will be very stagnant and you’re hoping for the starters to come back soon. If the Pacers found someone with consistency, like Korver, that would be an upgrade for them.
But what do you give up for him. That’s where it gets very tricky, and I’m glad that I’m not a front office guy. Personally, I would depart with some the draft picks that the Pacers have. With this coming draft, the team won’t be picking up that high, and I can’t see any stand out players even in the lottery part of the draft. So losing a draft pick probably won’t matter in the long run, especially for the Pacers, where the important pieces are here.
There’s the option of Gerald Green for Kyle Korver, which according to the ESPN trade machine is a successful trade. It could add a few more wins for the Pacers, and it brings in someone who could provide that scoring option. Green has been quite the bust this season, even losing his spot to Orlando Johnson, a rookie who looks promising. The Pacers must have seen something in Green to bring him in, but so far he’s not lived up to that expectation. Therefore, if the Atlanta Hawks are willing to part with Korver for Green, if I’m the Pacers, I’m doing this.
The downfall to Kyle Korver’s game is his defense. But the fact that Gerald Green hasn’t been great on defense, you’re not going to lose anything there. Korver is decent enough to give you some minutes, so I don’t think the defensive liability would be an issue. If the Pacers want that scoring, then this is the option they should look into.
