2011-2012 Season Recap
At the beginning of the season, Lance Stephenson was coming off the bench right away to get some minutes. But as the season wore on, those minutes got more and more limited. I don’t know the reasoning behind it other than there were guys who needed to play more ahead of Stephenson. He looks to have potential as we saw at times. I know there were some games he made passes I didn’t even know were there. He put up a career high in the final regular season game against Chicago with 22 points. We know he can scored based upon that game, but he needs to get out there and play, which leads right into my preview for Stephenson.
2012-2013 Season Preview
I think this is the make or break year for Lance Stephenson. He can earn the minutes he deserves or he can not earn another contract with the team. As stated before, there’s potential there with Stephenson that he can be a good backup shooting guard for the Pacers. He’s got an ability to make plays as well, which could help out that second unit so much. It’s hard to count how many more players can count on themselves to make a play other than Stephenson, so he’s got a great opportunity here. He’ll have to go out and make the most of his minutes. I can see him being like Roy Hibbert in his first years in that Stephenson tends to shy away from being an aggressive player. This would be the best time for him to go out and be aggressive, not reckless in his play. He can play under control, look for his shot, look for other guys to make baskets, and become a 7th or 8th man for this team. If he can perform well enough, he could be a great 6th man off the bench. But he’s got to get his game to where Larry Bird thought his game should be.
