(Spurs Lead Series 2-1)
Well, sorry Spurs, I jinxed you yesterday by wondering aloud if they could run the table in the playoffs and finish with perfection. It’s almost like talking about a no-hitter in the middle of a no-hitter in baseball. Now we may have a competitive series on our hands as the Thunder actually put some fight to the Spurs, and hope they can continue what they’ve started.
The Thunder really got the job done on the defensive end in this game as they held the Spurs to under 40% shooting. They had 14 steals in the game, which was led by Thabo Sefolosha’s 6. They also have 9 blocks in the game with 3 of those coming from Serge Ibaka. This type of defense is probably what the Thunder wanted to do in the first two games.
But now they’ve got one win, and they can see that in fact the Spurs can be stopped when played the right way. Game four comes on Saturday, so the Thunder will hope to put the brakes on the Spurs freight train again.
It should be interesting to see on the Spurs’ side how they respond. They’ve not been challenged like this in the playoffs. Even looking at most of the wins in that 20 game winning streak, they’ve not been challenged like this. Looking over their season, their last loss of this margin was back in winter time to the Trailblazers…..after an 11 game winning streak. That should show how impressive this Spurs team has become this season.
Now they’ve have to get back to what was working so well in the playoffs and bring that energy on Saturday. They know they’ll have some fight coming in that game because the Thunder would love to tie up this series in front of the raucous home crowd. The Spurs will do all they can to make that a road win for themselves.
