The Golden State Warriors have announced that they will retire the No. 17 on January 20 before a scheduled home game. The number? Chris Mullin‘s, of course. The opponent that night? The Indiana Pacers.
Mullin has been on quite the run here lately. He was enshrined into the Hall of Fame last month, and now he’ll have his number retired by the team on which he started his path towards greatness.
His stint with the Pacers didn’t equal his stint with Golden State, but he was still a very important part of this organization, and it’s good to see this kind of recognition for him. I mean, it was awesome to watch this guy shoot. He’s got one of the smoothest strokes I’ve ever seen. It sure would have been fun to watch him play in Indiana earlier in his career, huh?
He’s always been one of my favorite players, and he certainly deserves all of these great accolades.
Now, hopefully we’ll actually have a season so this ceremony can take place. There’s a little more promise in this particular situation since the game isn’t until late January, so perhaps the league can get something done by then to end the lockout.
Congrats to Mullin on his induction into the Hall of Fame and congrats to him on this great honor presented to him by the Warriors.
