Danny Granger was literally one fire today and just couldn’t be stopped. Neither could Tyler Hansbrough, having one of the best showings of his NBA career, as the Indiana Pacers beat the Charlotte Bobcats 104-101 in Hansbrough’s return to North Carolina. Depending on the fans if they are also strong supporters of the Duke Blue Devils or the North Carolina Tar Heels, Hansbrough received a mixture of cheers and boos from the crowd.
Michael Jordan and Larry Bird watched as the teams they managed were going at it back and forth. The Bobcats held the lead for most of the game, only clinging on by a short lead, however. But the Pacers managed to fight back in the last five minutes, with a lot of help from point guard T.J. Ford. With this, Indiana struck with Danny Granger leading the way, as Indy improved to 1-1.
The most breathtaking part was the last minute of the game. The Pacers led 102-99 before the Bobcats struck back with free throws, only to be down by one. However, Indiana fought back with a last-second push, as Tyler Hansbrough got a rebound and got fouled. He shot his free throws and Indiana was up by three.
All the ‘Cats needed to do was just now a three-pointer. Their first attempt, they missed and Hansbrough tried to rebound, but he wasn’t set as the ball went out of control and went out of bounds. Charlotte had one chance as there were three seconds left in the game. With Granger fouled out, the Pacers had a bit of a hole drilled into them.
With one last chance for the Bobcats, it was all in Stephen Jackson’s hands. Jackson got the ball and beat James Posey. He had a wide-open three-pointer in for him now, but he missed. It was over, Pacers won with a huge comeback!
Wallace led the Bobcats with 29 points for the 0-2 Bobcats. D.J. Augustin had 17 points and six assists.
Granger led the Pacers with 33 points along with six very important three-pointers. Josh McRoberts provided eight points and seven rebounds. Roy Hibbert had 13 points and eight rebounds along with four blocks. Mike Dunleavy had ten points and four rebounds. Darren Collison added seven points and a handy six assists. T.J. Ford had seven points and four assists. Tyler Hansbrough brought in twelve points and four rebounds. Paul George had eight points and three rebounds.
Overall a great game by Indy. They will have the Philadelphia 76ers coming up as Indy gets their home-opener coming tomorrow night. 1-1 right now, let’s go for 2-1!
